3. Mopeds,
scooters and motorcycles can get
50 to 100 miles per gallon! How
does that compare to your car's
gas mileage? For less than $1,000
you can get a scooter or used
motorcycle and ride your way to
big savings! (Insert Easy Rider
theme song here).
4. Hybrid cars
are the new SUVs when it comes to
fashion in cars. Hybrid cars can
get up to 55 miles per gallon
while an SUV might get 10 to 15.
With $2.50 to $4 a gallon
gasoline prices, SUV drivers are
the most hated vehicles on the
road and the backlash against
them is only going to continue to
grow as the price does. If you
have an SUV, trade it in and get
yourself an economically smart,
fuel efficient, environmentally
friendly Hybrid.
5. If you can't
afford a new Hybrid or
motorcycle, remember that when
you drive your car, you can save
gas by: 1. Driving slower, 2.
Slower starts and slower stops,
3. Keep your tires inflated to
full pressure.
6. Don't spend 10
to 15 minutes driving around the
store parking lot just to find
the closest parking space to the
door. That's wasteful of your
time and gas. Just park your car
in the first spot you see, get
out and walk in. You'll save
time, gas and get some free
exercise that you could probably
use.
7. Don't throw
away those plastic two-quart soda
pop bottles when you can cut the
top off and use it as a funnel.
You can also cut the bottoms out
and use them as planters or
containers for loose nails and
screws.
8. Throwing away
empty plastic butter bowls and
cottage cheese dishes and then
going out and buying plastic food
containers for $2 each is another
wasteful thing people do. Save
those empty butter bowls and
cottage cheese containers and use
them to store food in the
refrigerator.
